  • You will need (PSP) Paint Shop Pro.
  • Animation Shop
  • NO outside Filters Needed - Yay!
  • A Bold font of your choice.
  • A tube (or 2) of your choice.
  • One of the Side tubes (Optional)

Note: There are 2 files of Side tubes in Zip.  One file was created by me, the others were created by Mags Graphics.  Please respect the creator and do NOT change the file names.  Thank You

Let's Begin

1. Open your tube(s) into PSP.

With your Eye Dropper Tool LEFT click to choose a DARK color from your tube and RIGHT click to choose a complimentary very LIGHT color. We are going to be making a foreground-background gradient – so choose your colors appropriately. Results will normally be best if you choose two colors with the same hue – like a dark blue and a very light blue. But as long as the two colors blend well together you should be okay.

After you have chosen your two colors your foreground box should be the dark color and your background box should be the light color.

You can go ahead and minimize your tube for the time being. We won't need it until toward the end of the tutorial.

2. Open a new 320 X 320 transparent image.

Activate your selections tool.

and the Custom Selection tool.

With the following settings

3. Activate your Flood Tool and RIGHT click to Flood the "Selected" area with your LIGHT color.

We need to make this layer quite a bit lighter than it is presently – so that our tube and the effects we will be doing during the tutorial will show up nicely. Go to: Adjust/Brightness and Contrast/Gamma Correction and make sure that the "link" box is checked – then raise the numbers up to approximately 2.00. The exact number is going to vary depending on how light your color was to begin with. It should be between 1.70 and 3.00. I have set mine to 1.804. Adjust>Add/Remove Noise>Add Noise with the following settings: Gaussian; 8%; Monochrome IS Checked.

5. Effects>Texture Effects>Blinds with the following settings:

Selections/Select None

6. Effects>Texture Effects>Mosaic Glass with the following settings:

7. Layers>New Raster Layer

Activate your Flood Tool and Left click to Flood it with your Dark color.Layers>Arrange>Send to Bottom

Layers>Merge>Merge VisibleYou should now have something similar to this.(although yours will be bigger and clearer since I resized this screenshot to reduce the file size):

8. Click on your Background Color in your Material Palette and then click on the "Gradient" tab. Locate your Foreground-background gradient and set it to the following: Angle: 90; Repeats: zero; Style: Linear. See my screenshot for further help.

9. Open one of my side tubes.Note: You don't have to use one of my side bar tubes.....you can simply go to your preset shapes tool and make your own. You can use just one large shape or two. Be creative!

10. Copy and paste it as a new layer and move it to the Right like this.

11. Activate your Magic Wand Tool

While holding down the Shift Key on your Key board.....Select each shape.Selections/Modify/Contract by 2 pixels

With your Flood Tool Flood your selection with your Foreground-background gradient.DO NOT DESELECT

12. Duplicate this layer 2 times.

Rename each of the these layers like this:

13. Place a Red X over the Shape 2 and Shape 3 layers.

Make the Shape 1 layer active ( See my screenshot)

Adjust>Add/Remove Noise>Add Noise with the following settings: Random; 10%; Monochrome IS Checked.

14. Now put a Red X over Shape 1 layer and make Shape 2 layer active.

Adjust>Add/Remove Noise>Add Noise with the following settings: Random; 15%; Monochrome IS Checked.

15. Now put a Red X over Shape 2 layer and make Shape 3 layer active.

Adjust>Add/Remove Noise>Add Noise with the following settings: Random; 12%; Monochrome IS Checked.Selections/Select None

16. Restore your tubed image – and go to Edit/Copy

Make your template your active image – and make your "Shape 3" layer your active layer by clicking on it in your Layer Palette.Edit/Paste/Paste as New Layer – Don't worry about the size of it right now – we will be taking care of that in just a minute.

17. Lower the opacity on this layer to approximately 50% and then change the Blend Mode to Luminance (Legacy). See my screenshot for further help.

You will want to make some adjustments on how big the tube is on this layer and the placement. You want to choose just part of the tube to focus on.

Use your Mover Tool  to adjust the placement of your tube.

You may want to mirror this image – To do this go to: Image/Mirror

18. Make your tube your active image – and go to: Image/Resize with the following settings:

If your tube is taller than it is wide: Width: Allow to self adjust; Height: 310 - 320 pixels; Resample using Bicubic; Lock Aspect Ratio CHECKED; Resize All Layers CHECKED. If your tube is already smaller than 320 pixels in height – you don't need to resize.

If your tube is wider than it is tall: Width: 310 - 320 pixels; Height: Allow to Self Adjust; Resample using Bicubic; Lock Aspect Ratio CHECKED; Resize All Layers CHECKED. Optional: If you resized a significant amount you may need to sharpen your tube to get back some of the clarity. There are a few different ways of doing this. The standard way is to use Adjust/Sharpness/Sharpen but I don't always prefer this method as it can be a little strong on some images. Another option is to use Adjust/Sharpness/Unsharp Mask and then enter specific settings. You can adjust the settings to suit your tube. I usually use settings of: Radius: 0.55; Strength: 55; Clipping: 25; Luminance Only is NOT checked. Play around with the settings and see what you can come up with.

19. Edit/Copy.....Make your tag template your active image AND make your top layer your active layer by clicking on it in your Layer Palette.Edit>Paste>Paste as New Layer Tip: You may need to adjust the size a little bit to get it to fit on the canvas the way you would like it. Use the same settings as I gave you before – but change the percentage to approximately 85% to 90% AND UNCHECK Resize All Layers.

With your Mover Tool move your tube to where you like it.

20. When you have your tube placed the way you would like it – Go to: Effects/3 D Effects/Drop Shadow and use the following settings: Horizontal & Vertical Offset: 3; Opacity: 50; Blur: 7; Color: Black; Shadow on New Layer NOT Checked. Or use a setting of your own personal choosing.

Make sure you are happy with the placement of the two tubes. Use your Mover Tool to place them exactly the way you would like. If you accidentally move the tag template layer – simply do an Edit/Undo.

Almost there - Only a few more steps and we will be finishing up – so just hang in there.

21. Change your Foreground/background gradient color back to your Solid Light color.

Choose a bold font you like.....Not to large.

Type your text and go to Image>Rotate>Free Rotate with the following settings:

Effects>3 D Effects>Inner Bevel with the following settings.

Add a drop shadow with the same settings as in Step 20.22. Layers>New Raster Layer - Add your watermark.

23.   Now on to making it Animated

So open Animation shop. The easiest way to open it is while in PSP click on File > Jasc Software Products > Launch Animation Shop. There are different ways to get your images into Animation Shop, and if there is one you prefer, then go right ahead. Or you can follow this way.

In PSP Layers Pallet – Place a Red X over the Shape 2 and Shape 3 layers. Layers>Merge>Merge Visible

Go up top and click on Edit >Copy

Switch over to Animation Shop, and on the top click on Edit > Paste as New Animation.

Switch back to PSP go to Layer Pallet – Edit/Undo.

In PSP Layers Pallet – Place a Red X over the Shape 1 and Shape 3 layers. Layers>Merge>Merge Visible

Go up top and click on Edit >Copy

Switch back to Animation Shop and go up top to Edit > Paste > After Current Frame.

Switch back to PSP go to Layer Pallet – Edit/Undo.

In PSP Layers Pallet – Place a Red X over the Shape 1 and Shape 2 layers. Layers>Merge>Merge Visible

Go up top and click on Edit >Copy

Switch back to Animation Shop and go up top to Edit > Paste > After Current Frame.

Now you have all three layers in animation shop, time to check them out. Up top on the tool bar is a View Animation button (see below what it looks like)

Click on it and it will open your animation. Usually the speed it is automatically set at is a good speed for this type of animation. Click on the X in the corner of the image that is showing the animation to close it. Your other image is still open.

After viewing your Animation and your happy with it - Click up top on File> Save As then choose where you would like to save it, and give it a name. Click on Save. It then opens another window Animation Quality Versus Output Size. There is a slider on the left. The higher the slider is on the line the larger the file size of your animation will be. But then again the lower on the line you set it, the quality of your image goes down. Click on Next then click on next in the next window, then click Next again, then click on Finish. You may now close out your image and close Animation Shop you are done.

24.  To Make Side Border
If you choose you want to make this into a stat.  This is how to make the side border.
Remove your text & tube layers.
So that all you have is the background and the 3 Shape layers.
Image>Canvas Size> with the following setting:

Image>Canvas Size> with the following setting:

Add a new raster layer.
Send to bottom.  Flood fill with your (Dark) Foreground color.
Paste in Animation Shop as before.
Assemble in Letter Creator and you're done!!!
